How To Mess Up Your Work-At-Home Job Search

When you start searching for a workathome job using the Internet realize it is different than searching for a traditional 9to5 job. You’ll discover everyone wants to help you as long as you give them some money! If you don’t have a plan you can really mess up. Whatever you do don’t mess up like this:

Step One. Quit your job and tell your friends “I’m going to make a million dollars!”

It’s important to be realistic about your abilities to earn money quickly when you workathome. If you’re telecommuting this means you are working for a regular company and just using technology to communicate from home. Your paycheck will be in line with similar 9to5 jobs.

If you want to pursue new business opportunities such as working from home in a franchise or small business then it will take time to start earning money.

Step Two: Believe all the get rich quick claims on the Internet.

Is it really possible to earn 5000 a week stuffing envelopes from your living room?

Probably not!

Do your research. Make sure you don’t believe the hype. See if you can find more realistic opportunities that have a chance of success.

Step Three: Tell your spouse that you will have your new job in the next couple of days.

Just like searching for a traditional job it can take weeks or months to find the perfect workathome job. It is important that you set realistic timelines to get your new job. Don’t set yourself up for failure and high expectations from your spouse. Allow yourself time to check out and test the opportunities.

Step Four: Purchase the best and most expensive computer equipment for your new workathome job.

I always tell job searchers to be cautious and frugal with their money. See if you can get by for a while with old or used computer equipment and office furniture until you know your new workathome job is stable. You may need funds later if the job doesn’t work out or the business opportunity makes less money than you expected.

Step Five: Don’t bother to customize your resume.

First things first it is a necessity that you write a resume and have it handy! You may have to use it when you’re doing your job search. So it can be very important for you to have your resume ready and available. Knowing your job history and your accomplishments will come in handy when your interviewing.

If you are applying for a job that requires a resume then modify your resume to ensure that it accurately addresses the new opportunity.

So there it is these are only a few ways you can mess up your workathome job search. Don’t worry. I’ve messed up in so many ways that I’ve made enough mistakes for both of us!
